That is the downside. I have a 34 on the front which is just the minimum that is allowed.

Sclumpf has three options:

Mountain Drive - BIG cog on front and reduce gears by 1.6 when activating

Speed Drive - Smaller cog on fornt and then increase by 1.6 when activated

High Speed Drive - SMall cog on front and then increase by 2.5 when activated

Basically choose your normal speed and see which one allows you to spend most time in the non-active range

Rohloff have revised the lowest ratio for the Speedhub.
See this page -> Here
My 30/13 everyday gears are now just within spec as is a 34/16 combo .....  ;D
But my 30/16 touring setup is still out of spec .....  :'(

Plus the Mountain drive is the opposite of the HSD, a 2.5 step-down in gearing.

Still awaiting results etc.

So I have talked to Kevin at D-tec had a great 30min on the phone with him and then nothing, phone calls and emails unanswered, well I was warned.

Trying atm to find out how to get down to Auntie Helen to borrow her Ice Q and will combine that with a trip to D-tec. So hopefully in a few days/weeks I will back on the roads again, just need a LOW gearing as we are in a rather lumpy bit of the world atm.

Thanks for the photos etc

No shortage of low gears on ICE trikes.  They're also rather fun on the way back down.

Standard low gear on an ICE trike is 15".
But it's easy to swop the inner chainring from a 26t to a 22t to lower it down to 12.5".

Mine at the moment is 9.5" .......  :P
Which is a bit low for the Rohloff, so I've got to be carefull up the very steep stuff.

Unless you go for the short cranks option, where they take all the chainrings down a couple of teeth to compensate (so you get a 12.5" gear with a somewhat higher gain ratio).

9.5"   :o

Running twin chainring at the front on my HSD now.

Low range, 38t/21t which is 9.3"-49" then overdrive mode upto 123".
High range 53t/21t which is 13"-69" then overdrive mode upto 172".

The twin ranges work great together, as it opens the range the gears 8-14 work in, so I can stay in the low drag gears longer.
Plus if I hit a short uphill in overdrive mode, I can drop the range for a couple of extra gears before I drop out of overdrive mode.

Only downside is the spider is held on the HSD by a weak circlip.
To much sideways force pops it off.
When the tour ends I'm going to have to improve it's hold by deepening the circlip groove it sits in.

I want to visit Kevin.
Me too. Had one great chat with him three weeks ago and over the last three weeks I have tried to contact him via phone, email and in real life(knocked on his front door) and failed.

I'm glad it's not just me then.
