It turns out that Rambouillet has a model railway museum with a fairly small entry fee.

There is the Charles Terront PBP plaque, not hugely far from the start, though not actually along the PBP19 route.

Are there any other interesting places along the PBP route for riders or their companions to waste a little time at before, during or after PBP?

The museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday included
as well as public holidays (except Mondays and Tuesdays) from 10h to 12h and from 14h to 17h30, except 25/12 and 01/01. Last entry at 17h, for a closing at 17:30.
Approximate average visit time: about 1h.

Errr, Paris. Versailles. Easy drive to Fontainebleau forest (lovely riding, bouldering and walking) the Fontainebleau Palace which is awesome, Jean Cocteau's house if you're feeling arty, the Cyclops... Aussie George and I stopped off in St Meen le Grand outbound for 20-30 minutes to see the Bobet museum at a 5EU cost each. A nice way to get out of the PBP bubble for a short time and I picked up a couple of postcards for souvenirs. The main hassle was letting folks know that we were going to the museum, rather missing a turn on the PBP route.

Did anyone go to the model railway ? I'll have to admit that I remembered when I got home so I went to one on Romney Marsh with Junior on Sunday instead.

I wanted to (as well as see the Terront plaque) but ran out of tuits. I was going to visit it on the Friday morning after PBP but instead loaded up and transferred folk/ machines to Dieppe before I drove to Calais. Perhaps next time I’ll have an extra day free before or after PBP and I will get round to it.

I did on the Saturday after bike check/registration
sadly the garden railway wasn't running, but the display of model trains as well as the layout on the top floor while not on the scale of Minatur Wonderland was worth the 4 euro.

It turns out that Carhaix has statues of four Breton Tour de France winners, unveiled in July 2018. The four are Hinault, Bobet, Robic and Petit-Breton. I will have to make a point of visiting the statues during PBP23.

No coincidence! That tweet was what prompted me to find out where the statues were. They are riding up to a junction with the PBP route along the high street, a little west of the control. Less than 20m off-route at 1 Place du Champ de Foire, 29270 Carhaix-Plouguer, France

The statues always make me smile when I go to Carhaix (now live 20km away....) 2019 route passed within 10km of the house....
