Have you any idea how many golden galleons you have to pay the camera elves to animate photographs these days?

It's not been the same since the little buggers unionised...

I failed this morning.  "shall I take the camera today, maybe I can retake up my quest for a decent picture of the nearby swans in flight?" 0645 sloth took over, and I went without it.  A beautiful misty morning unveiled itself, the harbour, the ponds etc would have looked brilliant.

wedding yesterday. They surprised me with "we're going to release a dove mike, please can you get a pic of it flying away?"

needs tweaking a bit, but:

phew.

Very phew

that's ace.  I did ask if we could shout 'one, two, three, PULL' as they released it, but apparently that's bad taste...

Cool pics Gerald..

I was out with my daughter and we trudged through the snow up onto Lundie Crags.

Every so often the light became magical..

And the proper big mountains to the North across Strathmore from the Sidlaws. Caught between the showers.

And an exercise in how many elements of composition I could get into one pic (Leading lines, rule of thirds, (any more?)

Out on a quickie outdoors test shoot with a new model and makeup artist.  We packed it in after half an hour down by the river in Hammersmith; too bloody cold by half!

All I've got so far today is some chilly swans, my usual "before I go into work" subject, unless I can find the elusive little egret.  David's cairgorms photos certainly capture the feeling of being there, excellent stuff.  I'm very happy to note Charlotte's ability to capture beautiful eyes, well, beautifully.

Here is the processed version of one of yesterday's shots. 3 exposures blended, then a tweak of curves. The colour difference between the shadows and the clouds are real - nothing added, nothing taken away.

that's fantastic David, love the 2 layers of clouds.

I'm in the lake district this week, and thought i'd get up skiddaw before the weather turned this afternoon.  Got it completely wrong - when I got there at 10am it was -10, with winds that must have been 40 or 50mph, sideways snow and lots of ice underfoot - I was glad i'd carried crampons up with me.

then this afternoon, it was like this:

ahh well.  Character building stuff.

Yes. Just set the camera to auto bracket +- 2 stops. Shot three pics then aligned in photoshop and used a graduated mask on each one. The equivalent would have been to use a 3 and 6 ND grad filter with the 6 at the top, 3 at the bottom, overlapping to give a 9 in the middle. But I didn't have any with me so PS had to do. I then tweaked the curve to enhance the contrast in the clouds.
