After we visited the Maier exhibition and tried to recreate the feel of a Maier photo I then persuaded my son to try and recreate an Album cover.

No prizes but first correct answer wins some kudos.

Then there's this, which I think I'll call "The Tat Modern"

It is a wonderful idea.  Any idea what's planned for the poppies afterwards?

£25 each.

I've ordered one because it seems like a piece of history and because £25 doesn't seem bad to own a part of something like this.

Finally got round to doing something with it.

Not today, exactly, but just got back from windyland.  A couple from the beach at Luskentyre / Losgaintir

Shell on a sand plinth, Luskentyre, I by billplumtree, on Flickr

There were loads of these fascinating wee things, in one or two areas of the huge windswept beach.  My theory (which is mine) is that the shell shelters the sand behind and below it from the wind, and gradually forms its own sandy plinth.

Havnae got a scooby about these ones.

I think the official theory is that sand or sandstone carrying a load is more resistant to erosion than that which isn't. The grains are less likely to be knocked off by a wind-blown grain if they are being squeezed by the grains above and below.
In the larger case, it's how you get this sort of thing...

Thanks, Andrew, that makes rather more sense.  From the same trip, but in a different vein,

Abandoned croft, Geocrab III by billplumtree, on Flickr

These places fascinate me.  Old croft houses, just left when the owner (possibly with no family) dies.  They're not generally locked up, the door might be tied with string to keep the sheep out;  and, untended, they just gradually decay.  More here, and more to come...

Oh, I dunno.  It's not really that far from Lancaster to Kendal along the canal.  I think I just make it seem epic...

Here's another abandoned croft,

Another day, another croft.  Apologies for hogging the thread - this is the last one, and I think it bears a few pics

Abandoned croft, nr Finsbay II by billplumtree, on Flickr

On entering, via the usual expedient of untying the string, the living room is on the left,

(I note, without further comment, that the stove is a Model "No 28 MODERN MISTRESS"...)

On the table below the window are a glasses case and a Poll Tax bill from 1995,

...and on the right is the bedroom

Abandoned croft, nr Finsbay, bedroom I by billplumtree, on Flickr

The reason for the green tint becomes apparent on entering,

Abandoned croft, nr Finsbay, bedroom II by billplumtree, on Flickr

it's the green nylon overall in use as a net curtain.  So, I recalibrated my poignancy meter, only to have to recalibrate it again when I turned around,

Abandoned croft, nr Finsbay, bedroom IV by billplumtree, on Flickr

and then again,

Abandoned croft, nr Finsbay, bedroom VIII by billplumtree, on Flickr

*Poignancy meter explodes*

AIUI, this hasn't just happened to have been left like this.  It's a memorial to the woman who lived here, 20 years ago.  No-one wanted to take the croft on, so they left it in this final deliberate arrangement, which would have been pretty much how it was anyway when she lived there, and tied the door shut.

Reminds me a lot of The Castle pub in Lancaster.  I stayed there on my LEJoG ride for a night.  £10 a night and I still feel ripped off 13 years later.

Lovely photos.
