Title: Vuelta 2019
Post by: Bilfred on 30 July, 2019, 10:44:09 pm
Hi all,
Lack of Le Tour in an evening has already got me excited for la Vuelta.
So who are the contenders? Roglic, Dumoulin and Lopez from il Giro? Thomas not get everything out in the Tour and fancy a pop do you think?

Local boy Enric Mas maybe. He disappeared for a while in the tour (not in the Rohan Dennis sense) but apparently that was illness, and he came back stronger towards the end. And he was second last year.

Simon Yates.

Who will lead Ineos? Sivakov?

Or Movistar? Carapaz?

Carapaz, of course, I forgot about him. My money is on Thomas leading Ineos but I may be very wrong, Sicily if not then with Tao in support?

Mas back at top form could be a threat you’re right

Matt White said that the Michelton leader will be Esteban Chavez. I doubt Simon Yates will ride all 3 tours this year.

During le Tour one or more of *** Boulting and Super D Millar said that Simon Yates wasn't riding the Vuelta this year.

If he did, wouldn't that make three grand tours in a row for him?

It would yeah, I doubt Simon will go. Maybe Adam for another shot at a Grand Tour?

If he'd been defending his Vuelta title it would have been his fourth in succession.  Some bloke called "Merckx" did it in 1972/73 and won all four ;D

Noted Cav has been snubbed and that there’s not a Yates in sight on the Mitchelton-Scott official startlist. Lots of strong-looking teams though - EF, Movistar, Jumbo Visma, Astana...
Who’s the money on and is there a Fantasy League about?

No Dumoulin, so Mas. ...or Quintana ... or Roglic ... or Carapaz. No idea, really.

I see there's a Velogames fantasy league but am not sure I'll have time to select a team to do it justice, and am away for the first week so might not be as interested in what's going on. And, see above, I have no idea who'll do well. I had Bernal, Pinot and Alaphilippe in my team for the TdF, using the 'official' site, but did rubbish I think (it was difficult to know using that site) because I couldn't be bothered with all the transfer nonsense.

Roglič probably, with his time-trialling advantage.

Yeah he should be in a clear lead after Tuesday. Can fellow Slovenian Pogacar crack the top three?

Aye, I hear all the other teams are *chortling* at Movistar's hopeless tactics. Second and third on GC?
Total losers, eh?

Moderate. 9th in the mini-league, 5080/14899 overall.

It looks as if everyone above me all had Roglic, Pogacar and S Bennett, like me, but better gregarios, or managed to fit in a Valverde or Quintana as well.
