I found the sodding work laptop which I've been searching for for 10 days.  Someone had hidden it in a cupboard full of CRAP.  Must go crap diving at some point to see if anything else which is my responsibility is in there.

Nailed my presentation today, was really dreading it for some reason (well lots of reasons actually), sleepless night last night worrying so feel relieved and pleasantly borked now!

Why is he flying from Heathrow?  SleazyJet flies from Stansted to Edinburgh.

Alternatively, he could get the train.... or cycle.   ;)

Sleazyjet does fly from Stansted and that's how he usually goes, but they had no cheap flights at all, so we used my airmiles for a BA flight from Heathrow. The train is both expensive and lengthy.

We just booked Tunisia in a few weeks' time. We’re both quite fed up due to various Stuffs, so are very much looking forward to it. I get half the fun out of the planning.

It was utterly bargainous due to the fact that many tourists have been scared off, but things seemed to have calmed there; in fact, it’s probably calmer than Londonton…

We won’t get *too* close to the borders tho’…

I think the answer is obvious. Leave your bikes at home to avoid damage outwards, buy bikes out there (rental is money down the drain) and bring them home with you!

Reminds me: I think the common solution amongst colleagues recently has been to buy a bike and leave locked up on work campus ready for their next visit. I think I can borrow one such bike already, so I just need to precure the N+1 to add to that store  :)

I'd go car and tent.  I hate the idea of large (and they do no other size) RVs.  Plus they're expensive to fuel up and restrict where you can go.

There's a company in Las Vegas that rents out camper vans, complete with bedding, tables, barbecue etc.   The also do non-camper van rentals, where the vehicle comes with tent, etc. I'll see if I can dig out their details if you want.

yes please Reg!!  That sounds ace.

current planning is to take our hiking kit, with tent, carry mats, bags and stove and put them in the back of a large SUV, but a campervan would be much more fun!

For bay area, I was eyeing up http://www.californiacampers.com/  (stock only VW campers)

i found http://www.leavinglasvegascampervans.com too, but I think they're too small - the bed is 6' x 4', and I'm 6'2" and too wide to share a 4 foot bed with mrs mike for 3 weeks...  we've been married too long for that.

Ah - but they have two 6'x4' beds.  One each and you can sleep at an angle on yours...  ;)

I'll have a dig round for details of the firm I'm thinking of.  I think they're in the map pile upstairs.

BTW, do you want some maps for the trip?  I've got a pile of US maps that may be useful.

Edit: Found 'em: http://www.escapecampervans.com/

There was another company I looked at but they were in Los Angeles so not much help (unless they had a one way rental ending in Las Vegas, which may be worth checking out) http://www.lostcampersusa.com/
