He is a lovely fellow.  A better songwriter than singer, and a great DJ.  But, most of all, a lovely fellow. :)

Is that the same Tom Robinson who did 2 - 4 - 6  - 8 etc in the late 70's early 80's (memory squeezes stuff together)

Yeah all of that.  While I did hear him do a gig at BiCon 1999 in Edinburgh I was mostly knackered and didn't really take any of it in.  Don't ask me about music basically  :D

But I can confirm he is a very friendly, charming and chilled out guy who sounds like he's trying to make life better for people so they don't have to go through the same pain he went through coming to terms with sexuality and living life happily without societal badthings.

What Tom has is the experienceof the very public antipathy expressed after he released Glad To Be Gay, which is more overtly gay than 2-4-6-8 Motorway.  It became an anthem of resistance and resilience to a generation of gay people after the demise of the GLF and before Queer Politics, while also being the tool of the taunters.

But, uniquely, he was very publicly rejected by large sections of the gay community when he revealed he was living with a woman.  He'd never covered up his bisexuality, but somehow it was 'OK' so long as he was with men.  The treatment of his 'betrayal' divided gay opinion, and was a (small) factor in the creation of a new Queer Politics.

For all that, he is a modest man, and his enthusiasm for new musical talent is infectious.

Yeah modest was a good word for him.  He wasn't full of himself and many of us were too young to know or really appreciate him for what he's done but all of us were treated equally warmly and with kindness.

He told us about how at Pride 1987 he was booed on stage because he was with a woman and how happy he was that 10 years later at Pride 1997 he was invited to sing at the bisexual tend, when asked "where have you been" he replied "making babies" at which he was cheered!

He once said something along the lines of "It's strange to look around the room and find out that your ideal bloke's a woman."  Which is true from any perspective, I find.   ;D

Heh yes, he described meeting his now partner and how he thought "oooh he's cute" then got closer and discovered he was a she, and then decided "she's cute" and the rest is history :)

Auntie Helen and I are going for our first ride since my enforced lay-off in February. Only about 30 miles - she's being gentle with me - but there will be a new tea room to try out.

Drop bars and non-indexed down-tube levers are my good news, first time since April 1996!

Other good news - I've been to the Art Gallery and in addition to some beautiful mediaeval and modern paintings, there were toddlers running around, which I thought was good. Though made me feel both sad and happy for when Little Cudzo was a toddler.

I should imagine you are all highly chuffed, well done, music is what makes the bad times more bearable and the good times so very good.
