The other two parts of the Qatsi trilogy, "Powaqatsi" and "Nagoyqatsi".
In a darkened room.
On a fairly big screen.
With the sound cranked up unfeasibly high.

Bloody brilliant, although "Koyaanisqatsi" is still my favourite of the three.

Just now, Four Lions. Again. First time Mrs T has seen it, and she is in full LOL mode :)

The opening of Powaqqatsi - showing the Serra Pelada gold mine - is one of the most incredible, and powerful,  scenes I have ever watched.

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Pt 2.

I'm not a huge fan of snakes TBH. The scene where Nagini strikes at Snape over and over again, behind the screen - I find quite distressing.

I just watched American Beauty, a friend lent me the DVD a few months ago. I initially found it very hard to sympathise with the Kevin Spacey character, with his attractive wife, well-paid job, lovely daughter and massive bloody mansion he lived in, but he won me over after about an hour. Very good indeed.

Whoever knew that Thora Birch was only 16 when she did her topless scene, and that both her parents were pornstars?

Am watching V for Vendetta. Very very good and everyone in British acting is in this one.

Is a fantastic film.

We just watched Beastly, which seemed to be a bit of a modern teen take on Beauty and the beast. It served its purpose as a pre bed film.

Pool of London.  1950 b&W Ealing Gangster film.  Very enjoyable, atmospheric period piece with ships, shabby, bomb-damaged London, trams and gangsters.

Quatermass and the Pit. The 1967 Hammer version, DVD picked up from the book recycle shelf at work. Some of the acting is a bit err..enthusiatic but the effects are surprisingly good and the period detail (although then of course modern) is great. Austin Cambridges! The army use Humber Snipe Staff cars and the police Wolselys...and as with all of these old British films you can play spot the actor...wasn't he in...?

The original 1952ish BBC version is probably better (and scarier) but apparently only 2 of 6 episodes survive.

I'll put it in the library if anyone cares to take a look.

Love Quatermass and the Pit, I remember it scaring the hell out of me when I was 10. "They're killing the animals!"

Two contrasting films

Last night: Fast Five - ridiculously entertaining movie, pure popcorn, vehicular CARnage through and through, over revved engines, smashes, speed, crashes, noisy and everything else that is the very antithesis of cycling.

Just now: The Help - perhaps overly sentimental in parts (it is an USian film) but life affirming through adversarity, set in the segregated South, women looking out for each other. Recommended.

Machine Gun Preacher.
Based on Sam Childer. A bad ass biker released from prison and finds god. Decides to visit African war zone. Is horrified and decides to come back to save kids lives.
That's very brief summary of the film, but there's a lot more to it.
I thought it was great.
Only a 15 certificate! I thought it was more disturbing than most 18s I've seen.

Let The Right One In

Not scary so much - though there are some pretty tense moments - but very unsettling. And really quite poignant. I wouldn't say it was the masterpiece that some have claimed but it is very good indeed and a highly original take on the vampire genre.

Grizzly Man.

Would have equally worked with a comma between the two words in the title.

Werner Herzog is just a great director, who manages to create superb films exploring individuals whose obsession takes them beyond where sane people would feel comfortable.

I watched 'Shutter Island' with MsCharly and her boyfriend (after fireworks display). Leonardo DiCaprio bothers acting for once. Some really good roles in there and great atmosphere.

MrsCharly stayed out by herself while we went to bonfire. Decided to see The Ides of March. Came home and described it as "A film about hollow people who think they have principles.". I don't think she is a fan.

Crikey, you're the first person I know who's seen it and not raved about it. I've heard it said that you don't have to be an F1 fan to appreciate it. Perhaps not being an F1 fan actually makes it easier to enjoy.

I suppose it was OK as far as it went, but for me that wasn't nearly far enough.  OTOH it would probably have ended up twice as long.  No mention of his Formula Ford career, his short-lived marriage, his rivalry with Martin Brundle in British F3, the contract dispute with Toleman, and a fair few other things which I've already forgotten.  It'd have been nice to hear from some of the other drivers too - Mansell, Berger and  Schumacher being the obvious candidates.

In what universe would a film have been improved by including Nigel Mansell talking?
