Hi All - was thinking about taking a day trip over to watch the latter part of Stage 9 in/ near to Roubaix. Not having been there before I was wondering if it's realistic to attempt to try and drive over and park within walking distance of the course?
Anyone have any knowledge of the area and can help?

I would avoid Roubaix itself and try and see one of the later cobbled sections.

Unless you dig standing around for bloody hours waiting (aka "the atmosphere"), stages seen from the roadside are distinctly underwhelming.

Indeed! I have been a few times before and yes, it is a bit like that. We stayed over to watch another stage come through a few years back and really it's a lot of effort for a short lived thrill. I'd still go though.

Isn't the point to be somewhere within dashing distance to a bar where once you have seen them whizz past you can rush to said bar and look at the back of a lot of French heads staring at a small TV?
