Anyone into multichannel surround sound music?
« on: 25 March, 2010, 04:13:35 pm »
I'm hoping to get my surround setup in our new house. I'm going to get one of those Oppo universal players for multichannel SACDs and DVD-As.

They seem a bit few and far between, I have three already (Pink Floyd, NIN and Recoil). I'm thinking a Porcupine Tree would be good, and perhaps Opeth, though I don't have any regular CDs by them. I'm not sure I can wade through the Genesis box sets.

Any ideas?

Flaming Lips.

I saw Super Furry Animals once when they had their quadraphonic PA system.  8)

Depending upon budget and rest of system etc, if you will be using the multi-channel analogue outs on the Oppo, give serious consideration to getting the SE model.

As you probably know already releases are hard to track down and popular coverage is small.

As said above , the DVD-A of "Yoshimi..." is excellent.

On the SACD side, the "Brothers in Arms" SACD is also quality

Classical music is very well covered, with a lot of newer releases  in the SACD format.

Two sites I keep a watch on are

The Super Audio CD | SA-CD | SACD Reference

DVD4Music: Classical DVD, Rock DVD, Jazz DVD, DVD-Audio, SACD & DualDisc

although the latter tends not to have much in stock and then orders when you do.

I have the kit ready to go, but lack the player. Recommendations?
You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted, then used against you.
