Hamburg Berlin Köln
« on: 28 March, 2014, 07:42:05 am »
A German friend just asked me to to tidy up the English translation on the HBK website FAQ page.

Anyone planning on doing this ride?

The link to the page is here: http://audaxclub-sh.de/faq2014

Salvatore's done it 2 or 3 times before.  I don't know if he's doing it next time.  I'm sure he'll be along soon.

Hopefully Cyclofabrica and I are riding, if we can get an entry.

There's already a thread for the 2014 edition here: Hamburg-Berlin-Koln-Hamburg 2014

I intend riding again. When I spoke to bodach at LEL he said he was going to ride a tandem with George Berwick.

Quick reminder: Entry opens at midnight tonight. That's midnight German time. To convert from BST you have to Adenauer.

Anybody else having difficulty registering?  I filled in the form at http://www.cycle-regman.de/neuanmeldung/HBK2014  It first didn't like my DD/MM/YYYY date-of-birth - it wants dd.mm.yyyy.  Now it wants me to choose a route despite there being only one checkbox on the form, for "1527 km - HBK Hamburg-Berlin-Köln-Hamburg ()".  It's greyed-out unchecked, not allowing me to check it.

In the end I got in via the 'Veranstaltung' tab and clicked the symbol (of 2 sheets of paper) - that takes you to a version of the form with the checkbox already filled in.

It hasn't asked for payment yet, have you received any email requesting that?

Yes. Payment before 22.04.2014 to retain your place.

Thanks John .  I used your link but didn't have time to thank you as I needed to get to bed.  The email registration confirmation has bank account details for payment of the entry fee.  There was some kerfuffle about this on the HBKH2010 thread - isn't it just a matter of getting your bank to transfer the money for you?  I guess they'll give a poor exchange rate and charge you handsomely for the privilege - is that the only problem?

Does anybody have any idea as to how best to get to/from the start/finish by public transport and what accommodation is available there?

The organisers are aware of the Anmedleprobleme, so no need to report there.  I've been poking around the audaxclub-sh.de site and you might find the following links useful:

I have offered to help at the Köln-Rösrath control and they have accepted so it looks as though I (and possibly Poppy the dog) will be seeing some of you then.

That's a great control (if it the same one as 2010). The TLC from volunteers and comfy beds is one of my great memories of this ride. Leaving at 4am into a thunderstorm and a day of biblical rain sticks in the memory for other reasons  ::-)

Very sad I won't be able to ride this now  :(
Hope you'll all have a great time in good old Germany - it sounds like a fab event.

In 2010 the control was at Herkenrath.

This was the sleeping accommodation at Rösrath in 2006 (that's my left foot BTW)

But it had the same TLC (same volunteers - Leif Tretbar & family & others) and same torrential rain.

Debating what time we should set off into the cold wet darkness:

The only comment I've had from the organiser is that they haven't got the option of showers but are trying to organise food. Unless that's for us volunteers!

http://www.audaxclub-sh.de/node/564 promises us riders Schlafen and Verpflegung at Rösrath (Schloss Eulenbroich).

I notice that the bag-drop/sleep/food/shower control at 743 and 1116 km is not as in 2006 and 2010 at the shooting club at Messinghausen, with its 20% driveway, but at a shooting club a few km away at Petersborn-Gudenhagen.

Yep, no Dusche in that list so you'll all have to remain smelly!
