5:2 Alternate Day Fasting Meal Plans
« on: 20 August, 2012, 11:06:49 am »
This is my first 600 cal day of the 5:2 plan.  If it works well, I may just stick to the same thing every low-cal day, but I thought I'd share it and suggest others do the same.  It might give us ideas:

Coarse Oatmeal Porridge 60g & water   222
Black Coffee                                               6

Banana 125g                                           120

Steamed White Fish 150g                   150
Raw Cucumber 200g                                  20
Wholemeal Bread Slice 36g                80

Total                                                           598

I'm on the alternate day one for now.

Breakfast nothing

lunch pack of wotsits 197 kcal and black coffee.

Woo! I have 403 calories to play with for the rest of the day!

I thought it was supposed to be 500 cals... all consumed in one meal at any chosen time of day. This is officially the next diet fad - there are three people here at work doing it already.

It's 600 for men, 500 for women, and you can spread it over the day or have it in one meal. I find it easier to just wait and have dinner - eating wee tiny meals makes me hungrier!

Shall we keep this thread for meal plan suggestions, and put general discussion on the 5:2 thread in 'Health and Fitness'?  It'll make it easier to follow each thread.

Those look like promising recipes!

I have a relevant question about calorie calculation:

On this site, it gives the calorific value of 100g spaghetti as 362 (scroll down a bit).  Does this mean 100g dry spaghetti before it's cooked, or 100g of cooked spaghetti, as these are very different.  I think it's 100g dried, but I'm not sure. :-\

100g dried I'd guess. MyFitnessPal gives 60g(dry) of tesco fusilli pasta as 216 kcal, so that seems to correlate.

As an aside, MFP is a good tool for adding up meals before you eat them, even if you don't use the diary :)

100g dried deffo.

Wet starches like spaghetti are around 1kcal/gram, dry carbs 4kcal/gram, fats 9 kcal/gram, chocolate 5-6 kcal/gram...

So I should cook my food in chocolate not cooking oil? :D

No, the chocolate will char.  :(

Consider ways to minimise oil in cooking: quick frying, spray oil, non-stick cookware etc.
