annotating maps
« on: 22 June, 2020, 05:38:12 pm »
many years ago when I used to competing trail quests, I would cycle around an area markup all the paths and tracks on my OS map so I knew which were quick, which were slow, which were rocky and which were muddy. These days I rarely carry an OS map around with me but I do have my phone with various mapping apps on it. Is there an app that would allow me to make notes on the trail I am using and allow me to access it in some form of route planning site on my PC?

I don’t know whether the OS website / apps will do everything you need.

But having done a quick tour it sounds highly likely.

For an app, could use OsmAnd to mark waypoints. Then can export these as a GPX file.

For viewing on the PC, could load them in Garmin Basecamp.

Or if you want an online map, try uMap. It can import from GPX, plus add all sorts of annotations on the map. eg symbols, or labels, or lines etc. http://umap.openstreetmap.fr/en/
