Trailer bag repair
« on: 24 July, 2023, 06:34:09 pm »
I am looking for some patches for my  carry freedom City trailer bag and thought I had found some on the vaulted website but they have no UK shops or distributors  :( . Anyone got any ideas. I can't afford to send the bag away for  repair so I think patching is going to be the way to go  :)

What's the material like?  I've not met one in the flesh, but no doubt someone here will have repaired similar material at some point.

There is an adhesive tape for repairing goretex jackets and the like, tenacious tape

I have surplus, if that would do the trick then I can post to you.

If it's material like lorry curtains you can buy patches online in the colour you want.

Looks similar to the woven panels on my Ortliebs, which I also repaired with Gorilla tape.

I'll dig out my part-used roll and ship it onward.

Send me your address in a PM.

Such a repair is best considered in two parts, holding it together and sealing it, you might get lucky with a bit of tape doing both, I'd deal with them separately.
I'd put some stiches across it, a cm or so from the edges, then dab a bit of superglue on the needle holes, that will hold it together. Then I'd patch inside and out, doesn't really matter what with as long as it sticks well.

Top tip when patching anything with adhesive: Round the corners of the patch material, so there isn't a sharp bit to start peeling from.
