5 nights, room only in a summertime Travelodge or Premier Inn would add up to more, even without food...
Either you have a dim view of Travelodges or a very rosy view of what's provided on LEL.
Travelodge in Christchurch had no food and almost no furniture...

Hah no. I do feel for the PBP team - they’ve had to deal with some appalling civic bureaucracy this edition.

Which might call for some route redesigning next time to evade the areas with the worst petty bureaucrats.

Germans are second largest contingent so Paris-Berlin-Paris makes sense

Given the issues in France. Surely Prague Berlin Prague?

Brest

I met a Russian one year who'd ridden to Paris via Belarus and was planning to return the same way, so if all went to plan he could claim to have ridden Brest-Paris-Brest-Paris-Brest.

Paris-Bordeuax-Paris?  Much more interesting route (if a bit longer)

I've always had my eye on doing that Paris-Brest-Paris - I suspect it will be many years or never again before travel into those parts is possible (it was fairly challegning logistically to get to Brest due to entry/exit requirements)
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

Surely the logic behind PBP is that you start just outside the capital and cycle to the western extremity of that country. Hence the German equivalent is Berlin (actually Potsdam)-Selfkant-Berlin. This gets you pretty close to 1200km.

PBP originally started in the centre of Paris.

If they did Potsdam-Bielefeld-Potsdam it'd last forever as confused riders try to find the non-existent city at the halfway point ;D

Thus introducing the notion of a timeless Audax, like cricket's timeless Tests. Although somewhere in there would also be the notion of a non-Audax Audax (perhaps using the basis of a Klein bottle to calculate the delays).
