Title: Anyone got the £90 Surly huge front rack?

I "need" to mount two Ortlieb small panniers on a non-suspension front fork with a disc brake. I'd like to know if this huge rack is stupidly heavy or is it just the business. It seems to have plenty of adjustment, but £90 is too much money to spend for an experiment.

Blimey - looks like the Forth Bridge! The Surly site says it's 2.95 lbs, and generally not compatible with disc brakes.  :-\

Maybe something from Old Man Mountain or Tubus.....?

I use the Tubus rear rack & lowriders as well.

Nitto stuff is supposed to be good. On-One stock them in the UK.

Thank you for your help. I'd forgotten about the Old Man Mountain option - their Cold Springs front rack that uses the front QR skewer as a mount looks a far better option than the Surly.

Thanks for the Nitto suggestion too - but I've got a Nitto already on the front of my other tourer and I don't have canti mounts on this project. The Nitto is a beautiful bit of kit and amazing value for money.

If you haven't got canti mounts and don't insist on Ortlieb panniers then the Carradice Limpets are good.

I've got the earlier incarnation (badged Thorn) and they work well. Used them over some moderately rough ground with no problems. 

A PITA to take off though so just unpack your kit and leave them on the bike.
