If I fit a 44t chainring to my Brompton M6L, will I need to reduce the chain length - I assume so - but how many links?

Chain length reduces by half the reduction in teeth so for 48->44 remove one full link. For 46->44 or 50->44 (half a link or 1.5 full), erm - no idea!
