A new wheel for the Pomp; SA S2C 2-speed/coaster brake with kick activation.  All cable-free :)

Hub from ebay; Exal LX17 rim & Sapim Race DB spokes from Spa.  Very nice, but very heavy.

Some thorough rim and tyre inspection, followed by refitting the rear wheel with a nice new tube (I'd forgotten how much easier it is when you can feel your fingers), after yesterday's puncture fiasco.

Since I had to dry out the contents of my emergency toolkit, I took the opportunity to restock it a bit, including a bit of nice fresh sandpaper, seeing as we seem to have a mysterious surplus of the stuff.

This took all of about 20 minutes, including the time taken to track down the presta-schrader adaptor which ran off and was in dire peril of being eaten by the sofabed.  I have been utterly exhausted since.  Bloody lurgy.

Neat, so just the one cable for the front brake then (I can't think of a way to get rid of that!)

What sort of gearing have you got on it?
Actually, it is rocket science.

Awesome, thanks Rob :) I'd better get shopping for a 27 tyre and tube ... I could possibly stick my spare front 700mm wheel on then and take it on a test ride!

I don't think the brakes would reach. You need some pretty deep drop brakes to swap from the 27" to a 700C wheel.

All depends on the frame clearances - mine worked on one of the Peugeots with the original brakes (just) but I fitted new Alhonga deep drops for about £20 (dual-pivot so a bit more power)

Yep.  It's been minimalist for a while, with just one brake and a fixed rear.  The front brake failed though, and I remembered that one wasn't enough ;)

43x19, and it has a 33% reduction when you kick back, so something like 61/44"

Oh yeah, and to fit that wheel to the bike required cold-setting the frame from 135 to 120.   I used a f'off big G-clamp, and it was easy as.

Proud of myself, used my spanking new tensiometer to sort out my rear wheel (that completely lost it on the way up to Coventry). Did it on the bike, took a while, and would probably benefit from final trim in a building stand but it is not bad, true to within .4 mm I think.

Pumped up the tyre to ride and discovered a sidewall cut that would have left me rather stranded had it gone en-route as I wasn't carrying a boot. All in all, I'd say I got a flucky.

I've fitted an old immersion heater timer to the supply for the storage heater in the boy's shed.

Hopefully the damn expensive thing will only pull juice during the cheap hours of darkness.

It's OK - since he started his tree surgeon business, he keeps us stocked to the rafters with wood for the stove. The house is toasty and the oil boiler is hardly running at all.

Replaced bearings, cups and a cone in a Campag Daytona front hub. Will be checking out a Dura-Ace front hub after dinner.

Had a £2 9-LED torch from Tesco that I've attached via a drilled p-clip to my front fork pannier bolt hole for a bit of low down light.

The idea being that a bit of low down light should shadow obstacles a bit more clearly.

A cheap experiment, ideally I'd have one each side but can't find said torch in Tesco anymore, though did see some in B&Q a couple weeks ago (just under £5 each though!) so will decide if a second is worth it after testing the current one tomorrow.

Or I could stop buying cheap lights and just save up for a dynohub'd wheel.

On Friday evening, as the Cyo light I'd bought had turned up in the post, I spent a quick 10 minutes bodging it onto the handlebars, for the FNRttC, then fitted the dynamo wheel (which I'd previously used a year or so ago with my converted Tesco lights).

Put mudguards on the winter bike. Had to change the rear tyre to a 23 from 25 to stop them rubbing (crud catcher clip ons). Should be hay for Tuesday now.
