Geko / Memory Map
« on: 02 August, 2008, 12:50:08 pm »
Just tried to down load a route for tomorrow from Memory Map to my Garmin Geko 201. Never had previous problems

Says it can't find COM1, GPS time out etc.

The MM support forum is not working, but the FAQ suggests that something else might be polling the serial port. A likely culprit is my Nokia software - i unchecked it using the serial port, and then simply un-installed the Nokia software.

But alas - no joy.

How can I find out what if anything is using COM1? The FAQ mentions Windows Hyperterminal but doesn't actually say how to use it.
A shitter and a giggler.

frankly frankie

You could try looking in Device Manager.
My Computer / System Properties / Hardware / Device Manager

There's an option under the View menu to view Devices by Connection (its not the default view, you have to select it)
you  can then scroll down looking for Communications Port COM 1 which will have a + by it if anything's connected, click on the + to expand the tree.

Also if you double-click on COM 1 to bring up its Properties box, there's a Resources tab which should show device conflicts if any.  Not an infallible guide, in my experience.
when you're dead you're done, so let the good times roll

This is a problem with Memory-Map, it often reallocates the ports.

The above system will enable you to identify the current port.
