From time to time I think I am seeing some dated bike of a once-well repected builder going on sale. The (usually)Britih frame builders name varies. Hower,in my view, the bike is dated,as is the style. Anyways...the bike is pictured and shown with pricing. What then happens is underneath comes some comment offering superlatives about the bike. "Dream bike" "Good bargain". 'This will sell' Under this comment comes another praising the bikes past,build,quality,pricing...but the commentator then adds...just a bit too big for me,or I would buy it. More comments follow in the same vein. Am I slow, paranoid,or coming up on the down train? Is the seller one and the same as the commentator? Or do they have family connections. I just wonder, cos I'm just a curious olde timer. I think fairly honest, and wouldnt dream of hyping up any sale I wanted.
In an add on,those old named frame builders and respected makes now seem aged, out of date. I may well be wrong. But its like would any young guy want to buy Chippendale for his lounge when you can have modern Danish. Ask any antique dealer theseadays and those respectable names of yores are just seen as junk. Yes,Antique Roadshow valued bow legs with mice on them in 1980: today theyre only good for kindling wood.
