"Why I do this? Why not! Everyone saw the memo from the UCI. It’s been four months and I honestly find it quite strange that nobody has given it a try so far. We have 18 WorldTour teams, plus more than a 1000 pro continental riders and an immense group of amateurs that also can have a go."

What, like Matt Bottrill tried to have a go?  The UCI made up an unwritten rule where he needed to be on the bio passport, so excluding all amateur riders.

Matt B could've ridden an hour and claimed some sort of amateur age record I think, but obviously that doesn't have the same kudos. All the same it might've provided interesting asterisks/footnotes to tables of hour record attempts coming this way.

Looks like Trek will be streaming it live: BikeRumour. Switzerland is an hour ahead so will fit nicely into most UK lunchtimes

Check your time zones. That is 11.30am CDT, or Wisconsin time. I believe it is 5pm UK time that he will be doing it.

Definitely worth watching to take my mind off the referendum for a short while.

That stream linked to by Oranj seems to be US only.

But I found a thing on Youtube- didn't know they did streaming  :-\
And now I've lost the link ...

I think he'll crack it. The bar's been set at 49.7km, and I understand he's been near 51km in training. It won't last long, though. Tony Martin, Spartacus and Wiggo are all capable of probably pushing Boardman's record on the kit now allowed.

Does anyone know if you can get Eurosport on a Travelodge telly - 'cos I'll be in one at that time! Actually, do you even get a telly?!
Those wonderful norks are never far from my thoughts, oh yeah!

I don't think Travelodges normally have Eurosport. Terrestrial freeview in my experience.

FAO the York crowd: Bici y Mas will be showing this on Eurosport and will be receiving the custom of the university cycling club.  Come along and join in the cheering.

In other news, I've tweeted Alex Dowsett to ask when he's going to try it.

It might be easier to say who's not trying it! How about we persuade Teethgrinder to give it a go?  :D

He's not on the biological passport!  No disrespect to Teethgrinder but I doubt he'll succeed where Bottrill failed to navigate the UCI bureaucracy  :-[

If a biological passport is all he needs, perhaps David Martin could cook him up something in the lab?  ;D In any case, an hour is too short for TG, he'd have barely got going.

Still can't work out if he's off at 5pm BST or 6!

TV schedule suggests 6.

The Eurosport schedule says 5.30 to 7.15. He doesn't have a cat in hell's chance if it's going to take him that long.
It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

I'm only watching it for the dodgy playlist:

Republica “Ready to Go”
• P.O.D. “Feel So Alive”
• Metallica “One”
• AC/DC “Hells Bells”
• AC/DC “Highway to Hell”
• Farmerboys “Here Comes the Pain”
• Ugly Kid Joe “Goddam Devil”
• AC/DC “Thunderstruck”
• Black Sabbath “Paranoid”
• Metallica “Frayed Ends of Sanity”
• Europe “Final Countdown”
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!
