Exeter A River too Far 200 today and snow
« on: 18 March, 2018, 08:57:46 am »
It's my annual weekend of back to back 200s. Rode the Cheltenham Flyer yesterday but have bailed out of the Exeter 200 (A brilliant ride over Exmoor and Quantocks) because it's a 200 mile  return drive and heavy snow is forecast all day.

Anybody know if anybody is riding?

Two starters (and a few like me (lower risk thresholders) picking up their brevet cards - Flatus - yours was there). Both well prepared. One's intent was to ride out to Winkleigh (50k) and return (all on A/B roads). The other hardy, bold chap had fitted xc tyres on his disc wheeled bike and was 'going to see' what the climb out of North Molton was like, up onto 400+m Exmoor (forecast answer: 6" plus of snow, -3, fresh easterly on the nose and icicles in his beard).

I'll be aiming to convert this from 'routes' to 'trips' in April (have the Dorset Coast next weekend).

Given your username I'm guessing this is you, John?

Was looking forward to seeing you actually.

The route doesn't go through Tiverton now, though, so you'd have struggled to get a 'full roast lunch' the like of which revived you for 2016's afternoon effort.
The start/arrivee has had another 2" of lovely powdery stuff in the last 90 minutes.

I remember discussing this route.  Going up and over from North Molton to Withypool always looked like an er, interesting idea in March unless it was an unusually loverly day.
