I'm currently running a semi compact chain set with 11-28 gearing, is it worth getting a medium cage mech and 32t cassette to get up these hills? Did anyone else manage on a 28t set up?
I would say , without having done the Pendle , but I have ridden a number of the climbs, yes -fit the 32t cassette. I find it hard to see how you can regret it. If you only use it once or twice, but I think you will use it far more, nothing is lost other than a bit of hassle or expense. You may be super strong but just think of it as insurance maybe?
I have ridden up Hard Knott twice on the Fred Whitton on 34- 27or 28 and managed it but I would not want to test that with a bag and as part of a ride as long and hard as the Pendle, which I hope to ride this year.
I never used to use a 32 at all but was v pleased to have it on the Wessex series last year...........
