I have bought a Miilan
« on: 16 September, 2016, 01:48:31 pm »
I have bought a Milan velomobile, 1 year old, very nice!

I will be collecting it on Sunday from Ostfriesland (north west Germany, a 3 hour drive for me). I've hired a van rather than struggling with putting it on my car roof for such a long journey.

I should a bit quicker in this one, we shall see!

I am keeping Penelope for commuting, shopping etc.

Wowa wee woo! Awesome.

I've got to say a van is by far the best transport solution for most bikes. I have a pickup with a lockable canopy. Makes life easy, secure, aero and the bikes keep clean.

I am regretting buying a car and not a cheap Transit in January. A Transit or similar would be mighty handy.

Especially as at the moment I think my trike is going to have to live in my lounge (on the first floor) as I can't find any garage space to rent in the locality and I don't have room for three recumbents...

I think I need some Union Jack decals for the tail end, perhaps a faint flag getting stronger colours to nearer the back. I have been googling but haven't found anything suitable yet. There are lots of decals for Minis but they have a cutout for the wheel which I don't need. Maybe I can get one printed for myself... but who knows. I will keep looking!

Nope, no motor.

They are limited to 25km/h in Germany so that's pointless - the Milan ought to get to that speed without any problem at all. Then the motor would have to cut out anyway!

Somewhat less pointless when faced with a climb, but I reckon gears are a better way to solve that particular problem.

Looks amazing. I love the idea of a velomobile but I'm just not sure on account of all the hills round here (South Birmingham, UK)

Greg Thomas just ran a nearly-stock DF velomobile through the Battle Mountain traps at 59.04 mph though I think he's upped the gearing a bit.

You do realise that if the sensor can't 'see' the magnet on the wheel it doesn't 'know' that you've hit 25kph...

On the Bafang 8Fun if the sensor doesn't see the wheel then it gives an error code and doesn't work...

Attach the wheel sensor to a crank or lie about the wheel size?

Actually with the 8Fun you can choose at which speed it switches off - I originally set it at 25km/h but it is now on 35... But a motor is really not worth it on a lift Velomobile if you live in the flatlands like me.

You can buy a special device that fits over the sensor and sends a magnetic pulse at a reduced rate allowing you to con the controller.
A mate has one, purely for using off-road... :)

Decided to go for a bit of a speedy ride yesterday to see what I could do.

31km at 32.5km/h.

Compare that with my max ever in Penelope (with optimum conditions - which I didn't have yesterday) which was an average of 25 over a similar distance.

With my trike my max was probably 22km/h.

It's all about the bike!
