Having never used a bread machine, that had not occurred to me!
But as the arthritis in my hands gets worse, I may need one in the future, so useful to know...

Even my fairly basic washing machine assesses 'wetness' and ads water when appropriate.

Breadmakers are pretty impressive really.  It's all open-loop apart from temperature, and the whole process hinges on the cunningly-shaped ridges on the sides of the bread tin.
