Bad news. We're down to our last bulb of home-grown garlic from last year.  :(
Good news. There's a lot more garlic in the allotment.  ;)
Bad. It has rust.  :(
Good. I dug up the rustiest-looking plant & there was a fat juicy mature-looking bulb underneath.

Well, the bad news, everyone knows.

The good news? well, chez Ham Towers, there is an annual barbecue with loadsapeople and a pig onna stick. As a matter of tradition, said piggy has to be named. The good news, this year there will be no further consideration having fixed on "David"

GN: I took the early flight home today, finishing at 12noon on a Friday for once
BN : flight was delayed 1 hour at ABZ, then on landing at LHR, due to a French ATC strike screwing everything up, I had a further 90 min delay on the ground
GN: finally home, drinking French white wine, while it's still available.

GN: Plan to go for a spin with some chums tomorrow.
BN: This might not happen, on account of stopping a carelessly thrown rounders bat with my knee at Scouts tonight.

Seems not quite right. Wouldn't you name the stick David, and the pig Boris?

GN: Had a lovely day out at Glyndebourne on Sunday to see "Barber of Seville".

BN: The two hour car ride out there made my back twinge a bit; the three-and-a-half hour ride back did me in right and proper.  Back to popping pills every few hours.

Could be worse.  It took the Drs Larrington & Davis five hours to get there from Oxford the other day.

Ouch.  We made the mistake of coming back via the M4 - which is currently shut from 22:00 to 05:00 near Heathrow.  As no one in the car is a regular driver, and even the occasional ones rarely use the M4, this came as a very unpleasant surprise to us.

BN:  After my neighbours (both) and Mrs Legs got stung for the second time in two weeks, Mrs Legs and I had a heart-to-heart at the weekend based about
(a) our 3-year-old son
(b) a mild anaphylactic reaction I had a few years ago, and
(c) our beekeeping activities gradually becoming more reactive
and decided that we're going to put our beekeeping on hold for the foreseeable future.  We're taking the hives to Hull to give to my father-in-law.
GN:  Although they're mega-uppity, our bees have been very productive this year and I took off a couple of supers of honey last night

BN: the closest 3 Citybike stations to my flat were empty so I had to walk to the station & missed my train by a couple of minutes.

GN: The Virgin train manager was OK about me using my cheap day return on the next one.

We received a similar large denomination wine voucher recently, with something ordered electronically. It went straight into paper recycling; we don't drink much...

Thing about that is, they may be haute when you get 'em but they're generally a bit cold by the time you'm got home.

There ought to be some sort of community voucher exchange, like those phone boxes repurposed as book boxes.

BN: Our microwave died tonight after about 8 years.
GN: I've ordered a basic replacement for £34.99 from Curry's.

GN: The Council will collect dead microwaves. (W are car-free and several miles from any dump Recycling and Reuse Centre.
BN: The earliest possible collection date is seven weeks after booking.

I think that the WEEE directive means that any supplier of electrical goods must also take back similar items for recycling and disposal. While it wouldn't surprise me if they can get away with only doing that instore, it's probably worth asking Currys if their delivery service will take the old one away.

ETA - Hmm. Reckon a microwave counts as a large kitchen appliance?

The website stated I could take the microwave to a store.

Given that I am disabled and car-free, that isn't very cheaply practicable.

I am not prepared to pay £15 to dispose of my microwave if I can get this free from the council.

Given the length of wait, I'm not surprised people fly-tip.

Wonders if this counts as being discriminatory.  When I got a new washing machine from, I think, AOL, they did take the old one away.
otoh I currently have 2 no-longer-wanted mattresses and the council here charge £26 or thereabouts for up to 5 objects.  So I need to find 3 more items I don't need and which don't fit on my bike trailer...  Perhaps I'll ask some of the neighbours instead.

There are several alternatives for the manufacturer (or importer into the EU) - it's them that has the obligation on the recycling IIRC.

They can fund local authorities, or incentivise the retailers as options, but there is no statutory obligation on the retailer.
