I heard a cuckoo this morning. It was on Two Tree Island and I was the other side of the creek, walking towards Leigh station. I also saw my first swallow.
When we were in Scotland, between Glenelg & Corran, I'm pretty sure I saw a house martin, but it was fleeting. That was on 5th April.
There were lots of willow warblers in Scotland. Whist we were riding along the Road from the Isles, we could hear them almost all the way. Given that willow warblers and chiffchaffs are physically so similar, I wonder why one species seems to favour the far north and the other the south? We do get the occasional willow warbler round here, but they were nothing like so common as chiffchaffs. We didn't hear one chiffchaff in Scotland.
