Title: Relive.cc
Post by: TigaSefi on 11 August, 2016, 11:42:03 am
This is in GPS because it relies on the user to have a strava account for it to work! How flipping brilliant is this already?

I have one ride done so far ( 20 minutes ride min and/or 20km min)  https://www.relive.cc/view/665759833.

I am hoping that they get enough funding and skill to improve this even further. You must SIGN up before the ride commences as you are not given the opportunity to relive your previous rides.

It is a pretty good effort, methinks! stravistics also provides a linlk button from your Strava page.

Here is my commute home today (rides declared as "commutes" on Strava are not used but I forgot to specify this one as a "commute" so it appeared...

I also like it but the mountains can be hit and miss. Said Col des tempetes instead of Mont Ventoux last month :(

Well the col is quite close to the Ventoux summit - on the bend between the Simpson memorial and the top.  And aptly named.

I like it, although when it labels the places along your route (the blue floating boxes) it tends to ignore major towns and pick out tiny hamlets instead! A minor quibble though.

Here's an experimental long one they did.  The time is completely wrong (should be about 38hrs), but you can see where I slept with the Garmin still on.

Will they sort the detailing out ? The maps are often put on as you watch the yellow line go round. Very distracting. I guess they are working to get as much detailing for the entire world!

I think that mostly reflects the patchwork of satellite photos they have to work with.

Received from Strava this morning:

Quote
Many of us at Strava have enjoyed using Relive over the last few years, but because of Relive’s recent updates, unfortunately, we have decided to end this integration. The current version of Relive violates several of the terms that we ask of API partners. These terms are in place to safeguard your personal information, to ensure a level playing field for all our partners, and to protect what makes Strava unique. We’ve worked hard with Relive to try to fix this, but they have ultimately chosen not to make the changes needed to honor their agreement. So as of today, Strava will no longer send your activities to Relive for playback.

Disappointing but what's the bet that Strava come up with their own ride against a map system in a short while....paid of course.

One less thing to scroll past on Facebook then.

(did anyone actually watch other people's rides in this format?)

Relive seemed to I dictate it was due to them adding social features.

What ever the case Strava are equally dependent on the integrations with device manufacturers services, the API model is a fragile Web of legal agreements.

It always struck me as the GPS equivalent of those irritating video slideshows of zooming-panning still images that people sometimes do.  Very pretty, until you actually care about the content, when it mostly gets in the way.

Just like I'd rather scroll through a gallery of images at my own speed, I'd rather scroll/zoom around a map.

DC Rainmaker has gone and written an nice explanation of whats happened:

https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2019/07/strava-relive-cc-app-platform-dispute.html

In short, looks like strava are being more stupid than we thought, this is likely to bite them on the arse again soon...

Strava would be f----- if garmin cut them off... Whereas all relive need to do is get people to hook up through garmin etc. Which anyone for which the novelty hasn't worn off won't find difficult to do...

Strava no longer works on my iPad gen 3. That's where I looked at it at home.  No it no longer works I can't be that bothered pushing my data to Strava.  Suspect I'll shut down Strava soon enough.

Relive was boring for me, the videos are very samey samey. You don't really get a sense of reliving anything. It's a bit like sitting through an hour long video someone made when riding or their holidays.  No one ever gets to the end of that. I'd rather just look through a few mates photos linked on a map, so I know where they were taken.  Even without the map bit just looking at the photos direct is better than what relive does.

Relive footage is much more valuable when edited into something in longer form. I.e. interspersing it with videos of your own, with audio commentary or whatever. The raw videos themselves aren't much.
