I've watched the Mull it Over many times, and I love it.  I wish I'd done the 400 as well. Superb coverage of superb events.

Great stuff bairnagain, thanks for the memories.  Very much a case of "round up the usual suspects".

How I miss the lights of Portmahomack.

The Usual Suspects indeed.

And yes the lights of Portmahomack proved somewhat elusive.

Portmahomack no more, thanks to the NC500. Shame when something gets a name everyone wants to do it. 😩 Dingwall, Portmahomack and Bonar bridge were the to do audaxs.

i was thinking last night that there might be a sweet spot thats (a)  just after the point where its ok to ride a 400 and (b) before the camper van masses start appearing

to ride this / or similar 400 again as it was amazing.

I was hoping to take part in Hellfire Corner this year, guess similar territory to the rides mentioned above.

Had arranged a weeks holiday around it!

Was looking forward to riding those remote roads!

I’ll make do with You Tube for now

Last season I rode the full North Coast SR series. Hellfire and North Coast 600 which share a number of roads with the Portmahomack 400 really weren't at all bad with NC500 traffic. The only iffy section was the A9 down from Helmsdale, but the 400 avoids that. FifeingEijit and my go at the Ride around Ben Klibreck was probably not representative of NC500 traffic for the Syre - Kinbrace section conditions given the snow. However, to be honest, not being coastal I don't think it'd be that much different.

I think if someone wanted to organise it the 400 would still be a great low traffic route.
