Velodrome for Inverness?

Saw this on the front of a local paper whilst in town today

Somehow I don't think it will get the go-ahead - hope I'm wrong

£4M.  How can they do it for that?  I was told that Newport cost £7M and that is about 5 years ago.   Newport has seating for only about 1000 as it is a training facility.   Good for Scotland if you can do it.

It would be great if it did happen.
Though it doesn't seem to be very likely, it's currently just a proposal. And its suggested as part of the new UHI campus - I don't think there's been much happening with that yet, so it could be quite a while before anything is built.
It also mentions a new BMX track, that sounds like a good idea. I wonder what sort of condition the old BMX track is in, I've not been by there for a few years.

It *could* work but only as part of a multisport facility. Covered velodromes are dependent on people using them to keep the running costs going. Inverness is not a huge city and people will travel to glasgow rather than there from anywhere except Aberdeen. Though you might not get your car nicked in Inverness..
