Off later today. Hopefully it will be a dry day.
GO STEVE!
-
Keeping out of the wing doing circuits in MK it looks like. Very gusty locally.
-
Allez Steve
-
No further tracker points for the last 2hrs20mins?? Hope all is well.

Indeed. A late start and now a very long stop. Hopefully just tracker issues as he's in the bowl.
-
Is there a long transfer underway perhaps? A reminder that they are looking for car transfers this week has just been posted on FB.
-
A transfer would be done at the end of the day, not in the middle. I hope that a team member has contacted Steve.
-
My guess would be a (SPOT) tracker problem as it had him starting the day part way round the bowl at 11.15am.
-
Yes, the FB post said a transfer was likely on Monday.

Well that would certainly be expected ... but i don't think it has to be. An afternoon transfer could drop him off somewhere upwind of MK. A midday break *might* be better for performance. Maybe.
Ideally his lunch would be ready on the back seat, leading nicely into an afternoon nap :)
-
There wasn't much wind today and the late start means a very short day.
-
A bit of info from a team member would be helpful. Being concerned about Steve's well-being is not helped through a lack of knowledge.
I see no logical reason for a transfer not taking place during the day, if that is what Steve wants. He has already said how much he enjoys night riding. Having said that, today's weather in SE England was so mild* that I for one would have expected Steve to make the most of it.
*So mild, in fact, that I was cycling around London in my shirt sleeves - a short-sleeved shirt.
-
Show me somebody who rides faster in the dark than in daylight (excluding horrendous heat).

I find the above strange given that LWAB himself said that he was available anytime between Christmas and New Year for support. I presume this means a vehicle transfer as well.
And unless you are looking to catch a serious tailwind doing a vehicle transfer part way through the day does not make sense.
-
I offered to do whatever they needed at any time day or night, as soon as they asked. It was a requirement to send a driver's licence photo, which happened when I returned from France, two days later. The eventual answer was 'Thanks but we're fine till the end of the year'.
-
Tracker has now vanished for almost 6.5 hours. What's going on?
-
Very strange.
I wonder if the long time offer of a place in France is in the offing?
-
There wasn't much wind today...
I live 15 miles from MK and it was windy with strong gusts..
-
That might explain Steve riding the Bowl for a while again.
What is the drill about riding without the tracker running?
-
7. Advance notice of routes will not be required. Riders will be required to have an active live tracking device in operation for all mileage to be credited for the attempt. In addition, riders will have a trip recording device (such as a Garmin) that will record the route taken, speed, elevation/gradient and at least one of heart rate or power. Riders will be responsible for carrying backup batteries to power whatever device/app we decide upon. The devices used will be subject to the approval of the Records Chairman. Ride data will be posted daily within 24 hours of the completion of the ride. Tracking/recording devices shall be tested at least two weeks prior to the start of the attempt to ensure that the Records Chairman will be able to access the data.
9. Rider is encouraged to provide photos or brief video clips from the daily rides. It is recommended that the rider carry a witness book so that independent witnesses can sign to verify the riders progress. Carrying a witness book is not mandatory, but failure to do so will jeopardize mileage ridden if electronic devices fail.
...
11. If both/either tracker and GPS data fails, the distance credited will be the shortest distance via cycleable road between locations documented in the witness book.
12. In the case of communication failure where either/both of the live tracker or trip recorder data is unavailable, the rider shall send an explanation (email or text message preferred) as soon as possible to the Records Chairman. The mileage involved shall be considered to be provisional until the Records Chairman can decide on the validity of the explanation.
I guess that the odd day of the tracker not working would be tolerated if the excuse was good and the GPS logs are submitted (and check out ok).
No tracker and no Garmin logs and he has to rely on witness reports (which make riding round the MK Bowl highly impractical).
-
Steve carries multiple Garmins, so that should be fine.
-
If the tracker stops working, wouldn't a member of the team notice? Once noticed contact Steve and get it fixed as it should only be flat batteries and I know Steve carries spares?
It would also I would of thought be sensible to say, if only on Face Ache that Steve is OK given the number of people following him, particularly AUKs that know him.

Ride is up on Strava: https://www.strava.com/activities/458542270
"Extremely short ride. Extremely long rest"
41km for the day.
-
I'd say that's very worrying given that last week was 500km short of target - in Godwins not including repayment for kms lost.
