It says up to 40 mph so more a low power electric motorbike. But far better than cars etc. Upto 200km range, so good for touring , but long wheel base so not so perfect for UK lanes but fine in Canada.

Fabrizio Cross was on The Laid Back Bike Report a couple of months ago to talk about The Electrom: what preceded it, and how it was conceived. The drivetrain is quite interesting because it's pedal assisted at the low end and motor assisted at all points above, and so you effectively pedal at a standard cadence all the time. I'm not sure how it would fare in the conservative world of 15.5mph and 250W, but I like the machine a lot.

That's lovely bit of engineering. It sounds like it's been designed to comply with Euro S-Pedelec law. I'm not sure how that works in the UK. I read a post by Kinetics which seemed to suggest that S-Pedelecs are not legal on UK roads.

It could be legal, if you registered it as a motorbike/moped. Would need type approval, and a number plate etc. Then would need insurance, and a driving licence / CBT, and have to wear a helmet.

|How difficult for an individual to get type approval? If that's needed then it suggests S-pedelecs are not recognised in the uk. I can understand the registration, insurance and helmet thing but if S-pedelecs were recognised as a vehicle category then would type approval still be required?

It looks like an electric moped version of an FF, style Malcolm Newell and Royce Creasey of a few decades ago. They were well before their time!

I remember Royce Creasey in Motorcycle Sport, I think. A promoter of feet forward as I recall.
