Sorry this is all in french but scrolling down gives various patent applications in english (although apparently without drawings). It was reported to me on the Confrérie des 650B mailing list. It may be that someone has already reported it here and I have missed it but if anyone knows of a report in english I would be interested because I think there must be points I am missing in french.
I am very curious about the idea of a universal derailleur mount (and highly suspicious that it is coming from one manufacturer, although that is always the way things seem to develope)

But this is SRAM ???
I know of Direct Mount brakes (ancient idea that no-one should have a current patent on) and Flat Mount calipers. I hadn't heard of direct mounted derailleurs.
Googling as you say has only given me current products (which these patent applications don't refer to) and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycG_3sdkBPA which I will watch when I have time at the week-end but still does not appear to be entirely relevant. (French Google is a lot less efficient as a search engine than anglo-saxon google!)

I thought the point of a derailleur hanger was to be a sacrificial part so you didn't snap your frame or your derailleur if something got tangled in the chain. If you introduce a nice sturdy hanger, aren't you just moving the point of failure to the expensive bits?

Thanks; that's the one I wanted. But it doesn't actually tell me any more than the french one :( :( :( No wiser really. As the man says, "they're patents. No indication that they will be translated into real world machinery!"

Once upon a time, not so long ago, there were no standards for the derailleur-frame interface. The last divergence that I can think of was the Simplex derailleur fork-end which went out of fashion because Huret and Simplex went out of business! There may have been others since! The Simplex end would however take the Campag style derailleur, so it was at least a bit universal Shimano and SRAM just standardised on the Campag fork-end (someone will tell me that's wrong but it's the way I see it)
