I think it's 7 years ago today that the lovely Don Black died. It really doesn't seem that long.

I often think about departed audaxers and yacfers, but the one that still gets to me is Jamesld8
-
HF, was that Pancho?
-
There are a few names I'd hoped to see when I came back, but they either aren't even registered any more or it has been years since they logged in. Macleach, Gunner, Patrick Stevens. Yenrod. Flying Monkey. I wish I knew what happened to them.

Yes, same here

No it was jamesld8. A lovely, gentle soul, for whom life came to be too much to bear.
-
Very sad.

I knew Bobajobrob very well. He used to ride with us (especially on Thursday nights). Went to his
funeral. His mother was devastated to lose such young son. I don't have the full account of things,
but he was bullied a lot (by whom, I don't know) and ended up taking his own life.
-
I remember racing down the edge of the Cotswold escarpment with him near Hawkesbury Upton, with each of us egging each other on to go faster and faster. Good times.
-
Lars.
Bit shit, really. Lovely bloke.
Yeah, bit shit.
-
What happened to Lars?
Sam
-
As per thread topic. He died.
-
I hadn't realised that it was specifically about people who had passed away, so sorry for being insensitive.

You weren't being insensitive, at all, I think. My title was a little obscure and is the title of a song by Sandy Denny. I was taken aback to realise how long it was since Don died. Coincidentally, while I can't say I knew Lars, I did meet him at least twice: once on LEL which he was riding and I was helping at; second time, only a week later (he was well hard) we both rode the Old 240, a very hilly northern 400. I occasionally wonder if his hard-riding contributed to his early death, though I don't actually know the cause in Lars's case.
-
No, I don't know either about Lars.
Would like to.
Also there is of course Bob McHardy

We still don't know. Car? Illness? Where was he? Sweden?
-
IIRC heart attack.
-
I understood Peter’s musical reference, but of the people mentioned I only knew Don. As he says, it’s hard to imagine that it was 7 years ago.
-
Tonight I raised a glass to some other audaxing friends. One OTP (VeloYellow), two taken by motor vehicles and all three gone too soon.

Gunner’s still going strong.

Gunner’s still going strong.
That's brilliant! Not around here, though, I take it?
And Patrick Stevens? Have you seen him anywhere?

VeloYellow came on one of my forum rides (The Flatusian). He and Sandy stayed at a B&B of my recommendation about 100yds from my house. On the return I took him on a cycletrack back to the village and he slipped and fell on a steep sharp corner (uninjured, thankfully). I never pass that spot without remembering him and what happened a year or so later. I wish I didn't.

Patrick was never on YACF? He used to post on Cyclechat but I’ve not seen him on there for several years.

Mods came down on the P&L forum and tried to rejig it given the tit for tat that used to go on there. After which a few of the regulars left. One being Redcogs I think the persons name was, and Patrick left soon after.
In terms of the OP, came as a surprise and was saddened when Mike Hall was killed.
-
I think yesterday was the anniversary of Mike's death. 2017
-
Yes, that seems to have come around quickly, too, Matt.

Yeah, bit shit.
Still hits me hard from time to time.
