Is staying o/n in hotel elsewhere in UK to visit elderly parent *outdoors* permitted..? I can't see that it is atm.
However there is this reg; though I realise a diff scenario.
Accommodation
Holiday accommodation must close. Hotels, hostels and other holiday accommodation including (bed and breakfast accommodation, holiday apartments, homes, cottages or bungalows, campsites, caravan parks or boarding houses, canal boats or any other vessels) must only provide accommodation for a person who:

needs it as a parent for the purposes of access to a child where the child does not live in the same household as their parents or one of their parents

I would say no unless its one of the permitted reasons.
From premier inn website.
"England – In line with the latest government restrictions, guests with bookings for work, education or other legally permitted reasons can still stay with us before 17th May. However, we’re unable to accommodate stays for leisure purposes until after this date. "
Different in Wales though - "Wales – In line with the latest easing of restrictions, we will begin re-opening our hotels from 31st March. However, until 12th April, only guests who currently reside in Wales will be eligible to stay."

it depends on how strictly you wish to interpret the rules. We spent last weekend in a hotel 200 miles from here because my in-laws had to go into a care home while their house is rewired. It needed to be done "immediately" because Social Services had got the fire brigade involved and they had condemned the wiring (and quite rightly too). We had to give a reason when we booked in to the hotel, we stated emergency relocation of parents to care home as the reason, which was true. The hotel did not care what reason we gave, or even read what we had put on the form, they just want to cover themselves. So, if you think that you need to visit the parent for, say, their mental wellbeing, then you are legitimately able to stay in a hotel. If you can find one open, which will be the next problem.

Thanks both. I've not seen my mother for 6 months now (4.5hrs drive away), but unfortunately it still comes under unecessary journey, and doesn't seem to fit with reasons for hotel stay o/n either. We're both 1st dose vaccinated. Unecessary jouney also probably rules out sleeping in back of car in home's private car park.

Thats not so far you can't manage a reasonable days visit - and if you're late leaving, well, taking a nap in the services is recommended practice.

True, there doesn't appear to be a distance limit. Not something I've ever done, but doable. Otherwise looking like after 17 May, rather than 12 April.

If she's on her own can you not form a bubble and see her?

Thanks. Don't think so, as she has daily carers.

Carers don't count as bubble members. You can still be either her bubble or providing care even if she has carers.

You can stay in a self-contained property after 12 April. Mr R and I have booked a long weekend in a shepherd's hut for w/e 23-25 April with no problems. It just 'multi-occupancy' properties that are an issue until May.

And even hotels with outside access to the room can open. We have a trip to the Lakes booked to a hotel where the rooms have a balcony accessible from outside!
You can also stay at any AirBNB
