Title: A lejog experience
Post by: shyumu on 15 July, 2013, 11:21:25 pm
One of many LEJOG experiences, this is mine.  I rode it in 2009 as a charity event, planned and executed solo, raising money for CentrePoint (the homelessness charity).

I think that now, 4 years later, I've finally overcome the trauma.

I was surprised at how much I remembered, and "thank bikejournal" for the data.

My journal (without adverts of course) (http://balancingontwowheels.blogspot.co.uk/2009/05/from-archive-lands-end-to-john-ogroats.html)

Graeme, I loved that.  You give us the joy without hiding the pain!  I'll be thinking of you on Sunday on the Tan Hill 200 as I crest (I hope) Tatham fell at the Cross of Greet - and I won't be fully laden!  (I suppose many LEJOGers just plough up the A6?)

I dare not open the link atm*.

IIRC Graeme you did your e2e just before or just after mine.Over the last 12 months I've developed itching pedals to do it again in the opposite direction & reading your write-up will increase the frustration.

Those 4 years have passed by so quickly.

Allow me to recommend Robgul's site.My e2e diary (no pictures) is on there.

* I'll not be able to resist for long though

ETA my write-up is actually on this forum somewhere

Any idea when the resistance might be broken? ;)

I bl**dywell knew I should not have read it

 ;D

A right cracking ggood write-up Shyumu

There is so much therein that I can directly relate to I could bore you with a long list of similarities & coincidences but I'll not steal your thunder.
The big difference is that I travelled slower, dawdled* somewhat & took rather longer.

*The Crask Inn:
I got there at 1500hrs & equivocated about stopping so early in the day so as to spend the night there.
I did so on the basis that I expected to pass this way only once (I hope to be mistaken in this regard)It was one of the outstanding highlights of a journey of highlights.

Thanks for posting that blog.Thoroughly enjoyed having my pedals made itchy ;D

Will you change your name to lejoger once you've done it the other way round?

Great write up

You hear mixed views on the End-End but it comes down to people's expectations, the route and their experience on the ride.

I rode it back in 2003 and we went for a 1000 mile route with more climbing but over a longer time frame. It was a great experience that I shall never forget.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary (and the fact that I am 50), this September I will be riding it again but this time on a hillier route of >1900k in over just under 8 days (hopefully).

Just read through the report, fabulous stuff.

I know that I can not be a real cyclist, here in the uk, until I ride an end to end; I will be watching reports of hummers' route carefully as it does look like a cracking ride.

Turning 40 in September was my reason for doing JoGLE this year, theirs already talk of doing it the other way in 10 years :-)

My ride was also intended to relate to my 50th birthday but it was several years too late due to a decade of prevarication ::-)
