£50 bike repair voucher for all
« on: 04 June, 2020, 05:24:28 pm »
From the Guardian today:

Quote
Shapps says a £50 fix your bike voucher will be introduced, to encourage more people to start using bikes.

I phoned my LBS this week (which was already popular before lockdown) and they're booked up until early July. This should keep them in business for a while

£50.00
I cannot see that going very far to fix most bikes.
I'm not even thinking about high-end stuff.

4 brake pads, new cables, probably a fair whack of WD-40, maybe 5 minutes or so of hacksawing and... yeah...

What's the odds on the vouchers appearing at the end of the Summer, and as lockdown is over ?

I've just opened a bike repair business in my garage. Bring out your vouchers!  ;)

Hoping this will pay for the hydraulic finessing on my rear brake and a bit of TLC on the cargo bike.  And new brake pads.

... but I may not be eligible as you need to be a citizen.

I don't normally let LBSes work on my bikes, but suddenly I feel £50 is a fair price for checking my valve caps are correctly torqued.

Still no actual details from the govt shower of shambles as to how/when we will be able to cash in on this.

Wasn't it Shapps who announced this ?

I'd say it's 50:50 whether it happens at all. This administration appear to struggle with delivery.

The way it works here is that you visit https://coupdepoucevelo.fr/auth/home, select an LBS from their list and set up an appointment by email or phone. Once it's set up you receive a code by text message, and when you give this to the LBS they knock 50€ off your bill.

Our govt seem to have managed to set it up PDQ, so the UK should manage it by...

I might avail myself of it, I've been thinking of changing my tyres to 28mm.  Dunno if Decathlon sell Contis, though.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Still no news on how this will work and when it will happen.

I think we need to email bomb Shapps for details.

How could we have missed this for all the noise it generated?

I have passed this on to my LBS, thanks.

it would be interesting to know caveats and limitations, e.g. the minimum spend, the number of bikes one person can take for repair etc.

I presume it's one voucher per person.
