Geoffrey Palmer.  Another one of those actors whose presence in a production was usually a good indication it'd be worth watching.

Boo! I was just thinking only recently that he has had "a good innings", as they say, but it's still sad news. Genuinely one of my all-time favourites in the category of "British charactor actors", though that's probably understating just how good he was. He also made an excellent lead in things like As Time Goes By (two national treasures for the price of one there).

And yes, I agree that his presence in anything was always a good sign.

Jimmy will probably always be regarded as his defining role though.

Was he Postman for 5 years. I know this because he signed me recorded delivery book every now and again. That's how long ago that was!
Always got the impression he was kind of shy and a self-effacing sort of bloke. Hardly put himself in the media spotlight did he, other than when he was working?

I often cycle past his house now and those memories naturally drift back.

He had a good life.
