I have many happy memories thanks to that wonderful man. For various reasons that don’t need to be spelled out here, I started falling out of love with football from the late 80s onwards. He rekindled my enthusiasm.

But he was never the same after his first close brush with death back in 2001, never quite recaptured the magic of his first few years at Liverpool. Such a shame.

RIP Gerard.

I didn't realize he was in his 70s. I guess I hadn't been paying attention and had missed that it's no longer 2004.

The thing that all the tributes say is that however good a football manager he was (and he was very good - brilliant before his first heart issue), he was an outstanding human being. RIP GH.
