Riding Fixed Cures Knee
« on: 21 December, 2020, 09:22:13 pm »
About six weeks ago I twisted my knee, been off since, weather n stuff plus the injury was pretty sore. Waking up.at night and thinking I may have permanent damage. Funny thing, a gentle 3 hours of riding Fixed on Sunday has improved things a great deal

My questions would be about what was different? Shoes, pedals, crank length, seat height, saddle set back etc . Add to that, what gears were you riding in each scenario?

I injured the knee lifting a heavy box. It wasn't getting any better until I took the exercise, and riding fixed seems a rather unusual cure.

Riding a geared bike would have cured it too?

Indeed. My physio prescribed some resistance exercises to fix my dodgy knee. I can see how riding fixed would have a similar effect - as long as you don't overdo it.

Until your calf cramps whilst riding down hill and fighting to make a train. c.f. one of the ACF Christmas Ashdown Forest rides circa 2007. I ended up on a later train than everyone else to get home from East Grinstead.
