Tiagra 4700
« on: 13 March, 2021, 09:59:24 am »
I have a tiagra 4700 groupset which I want to install on flat bars, a recumbent actually.  So, I’m wanting to do away with the shifters and install either twist grip, rapid fire or bar end.   Possibly from a mountain bike, hybrid range.   What will work. It seem hard to find 3x10.

Bar-ends in friction mode will work for sure (I've done it)   LH is friction by default, RH can be friction or index with a selection screw.  BUT how will you install them on flat bars?

You can convert bar end levers to thumbshifters with suitable brackets but that doesn’t actually answer the OP’s question. Some flat bars (mostly steel bars) have a large enough internal diameter to fit unmodified bar end gear levers. Some folk bore out the very ends of aluminium bars to fit bar end gear levers.

Triple cranks are nearly dead in the water, particularly for 10 speed. Manufacturers are discontinuing the relevant gear levers.

There is currently huge disruption in component supplies, so many things are out of stock and likely to remain so until next year. Component manufacturers are prioritising the OEM market (bike makers) over the aftermarket (retailers).

You’re better off starting with an MTB groupset if you want to do flat bars and triple.

Yes, the parts I need wouldn’t be available to mid June and are over £100,  might be best to start with a mid range MTB groupset.  It actually going on a recumbent.
