Old DT Swiss 240s died. Substitute with 350?
« on: 31 August, 2023, 01:38:30 pm »
I bought a second hand wheelset for brevet and randonneuring...
Rear wheel is an older 240s hub laced to a H Plus Son Archetype rim, 32 spoke, 3 cross.
The hub flange broke while truing the wheel in the truing stand (luckily it didn't break at PBP last week!!!)

It seems almost impossible to find a 240s replacement hub (non disc, 32 hole, campagnolo freehub), on top of that, newer 240s hubs are "EXP ratchet".

I did find a couple of different 350 hubs that I think are "classic ratchet" but shimano 11sp. Hopefully compatible with my current campagnolo freehub.

First model seems like an older version...

Second model has newer decals, slightly lower weight at 254g vs 265g...

Any reason to go with the slightly more expensive newer model? Is the older model a 3-pawl system?
Would either hub be compatible with my older campagnolo ratchet type freehub?

Thank you!

I just noticed the ratchet symbol on the hub decal for the older hub model...

Was a long time ago but I had several DT Swiss hubs tear along the perforations. Looks like they have not improved..
Spa cycles stock Hope RS4: spendy but nice
Or budget option Ambrosio Zenith's
Both Campag splined

The Ambrosio are Novatec and fine. Spa also have 105 7000 rear hubs in stock

To be fair, this 240s hub is an older model that had survived all these years. I am guessing this is from circa 2008.  I haven't seen newer 240s suffering from broken flanges.
