COPD back again
« on: 11 March, 2009, 02:48:47 pm »
Mon morn I felt a bit breathless, started coughing, up came some lumps. "That's odd, I felt fine all weekend". Cycled to train station rather than leeds.
By Mon night I was needing my inhaler.

By tues night I could hear my chest bubbling as I breathed.

This sucks.

Sorry to hear that.  Do you have an escalation plan on your medication?  If not, get thee to your GP pronto!

That sounds bad, I have emphysema and I get very breathless while riding hilly areas
hope you soon get back to normal

It's going, slowly.

I'm sure this is just triggered by a lung infection. I always used to throw these things off very very quickly. Not any more.

The 'fingernail' test shows I'm not short of oxygen, but I am getting very dizzy if I walk fast. Had to sit down last night for 5min or so, the whole world was shaking. I suspect my blood pressure has shot through the roof as I'm getting constant flooding nosebleeds today.

I'm going to see the doc on Mon.

I have the excuse of being over 40. Whereas you, brat, just need to give up smoking.

Sounds like the same crap I have had Charly
http://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=13957.0

I had three lots of anti biotics [thrown wildly at it by the doc with no tests on blood or sputem in three months] in the end, still coughing up lumps but gradually less and less, it can come on quite suddenly and totally blocks the airways to the point I am coughing and seeing stars.
Steam inhaling seems to have the best effect at loosening it all.

Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

God, after 25 years as a two pack-a-day smoker (quit 26th March 2002), I always worry when I read threads like this.

Hilly rides always make me cough for a day or so afterwards and I find myself thinking "Have I ruined myself, and this is the first of many horrible things that are going to happen?"

GWS :)

That's an accurate description.

I haven't had a course of antibiotics yet.

I rode to leeds!

first ride in since lung prob started.

Gosh, I've lost a lot of fitness. I think I'll take the train back to York, and build up to doing the ride both ways.
