"Better drowned than duffers, if not duffers won't drown"
« on: 03 April, 2009, 04:56:55 pm »
Tomorrow sees my first foray on to the high seas as captain of my very own Pirate Vessel (well, kayak).

I and First Mate Andy (the first mate that answered yes to my request to join me) will be paddling from Richmond to Teddington and then BEER.

If you time it right with the tide you probably won't even need to paddle :-)

I'll be hammering along the towpath in that direction sometime tomorrow so I'll give you a wave if I  see you.

Be on your guard for hillbilly's.

Especially if you have a real purty mouth.

I'm not sure they have hillbillies or rednecks in Kingston-upon-Thames, dahling.  You might be torpedoed by a stray Pimm's bottle if it's a nice day.

Ahhh...public school types.

So still a danger of random buggery though.

Well, apart from the bunch of squatters at Raven's Ait who were holding a rave at about midday when we walked past.

At least, we think it was a rave. It might have been an enthusiastic game of bingo. It was a bit incoherent. ::-)

Well I didn't drown, that's about as good as it got though.

It's very stable, very manouverable but really doesn't like going in a straight line.

Been reading up on kayaking technique in preparation for the next go at it - rather than just paddling in circles.  Hopefully I'll step up to paddling in wider circles for the next outing.
