Replacing a brake cable on a Brompton
« on: 06 October, 2009, 01:33:44 pm »
Something that should be a simple task!  A friend left her Brompton in my office with a request to fix the brake cable.  She supplied the brake cable, which is a V-brake type with the flat cylindrical nipple.

I can't get the cable to stay in the lever.  Is it simply that I have the wrong cable?  Should it be a road bike type cable?

Cheers.

As an aside: the fold of the Brompton might be great but the quality of the equipment is lamentable.  This is probably quite an old machine, it has a Sachs Torpedo branded 3 speed hub.  Has the quality of the brake levers improved since?

To answer my own question: use a brake cable for a drop bar lever.

When I finally get around to buying a Brompton, the first thing I'll replace is the brake levers, for two finger BMX levers.
