&^% me, tyres have got expensive
« on: 28 October, 2009, 04:23:14 pm »
Last time I bought a GP 4 Seasons tyre, I paid about £22. I thought that was expensive as the previous one cost under £19!

I've just looked about, can't see anything under £30 (for 28mm).

Anything we import (ie everything) is going to get more and more expensive since the annihilation of the currency started.

I think that's right, and it just happens that certain sorts of products are affected sooner than others.  Hopefully the prices will come back down again though once the companies realise that their customers simply cannot afford to pay the highest ones.

I stocked up last time I saw them at about £23, so I'll be fine for another 10,000km. I keep an eye on the prices once my stockpile starts to run low, so I can pick them up for a good price.

Greenbank wins the google-foo award, as other links were to 25 or 23mm.

Not really annihilation - it's the £ finding a more sensible level again.  Think of the last decade or so as being a time of cheap imports and now we're back to reality...

There's a few of us been praising those tyres for some time now  ;)

My only objection is that the rubber can get slashed easily by glass and I found that the tyres suddenly had a patch of rubber missing.

I have a commute that includes hawthorn, broken glass and bottle bases . . .

The 4 seasons are doing very well at coping with this.

Yes, and it's good for our manufacturers and exporters (I think we still have one or two) whose products will be cheaper for furriners to buy. Brooks and Carradice could do nicely!  :)
