Folding a Dahon

Despite advice to buy a Brompton, Mr Mudtracker Snr has gone and bought himself a Dahon Mu XL Sport - there's no telling some people.   ;)

He seems happy with it but we're having a bit of a problem understanding the intricacies of the Dahon fold.  It's as standard, with the addition of the larger "Tour" rack.  We have great difficulty folding it such that the magnets on the drop-outs meet together.  The only seem to do so is paradoxical: raise the handlebars from their default lowest position and then fold.  He therefore has to make the bike bigger before he makes it smaller!  The handlebars also then have to be lowered when unfolded to go back to the riding position.

We have rotated the handlebars to get the brake levers out of the way.  It looks like the bike might fold smaller without the rack, but are we missing anything else?  Experiences of fellow Dahonites welcome...

Yep, raise the bar (and rotate for ease) before folding. That was how it was for me when I had a D7HG.

I know they don't show it on the video, but that's how it worked for me
