What is your boot up time ?
« on: 05 June, 2008, 02:09:22 pm »
I got 2 laptops and the boot up time just confuses me.

Laptop one :
Sony PCG-SRX87 : PIII 850MHz, 256Mb RAM, 11Mb Graphic Card, 20Gb Hard Disk (4200rpm)
It is running dual boot right now between XP (right off the CD no updates or tweaks) with Ubuntu 6.10 (right of the CD no updates or tweaks)

XP boot up time : just shy of the one minute (I know that with some tweaks I can shave around 15-20sec of that)
Ubuntu boot up time : 1min 40sec.

Laptop two:
Sony VGN-SZ2XP : Intel Duo Core T2500 (2Ghz/667Mhz), 2Gb RAM, 128Mb Graphic Card. 100Gb Hard Disk (5400rpm).

Ubuntu 8.04 (with all the updates) boot up time : 1min 40sec, and after taking off the disk check in fstab I get 1min 30sec.
XP (when I ran that) with all the tweaks and updates : I had around 45-50sec boot up time.

It is great to see that my 6 years old mini laptop still have some go in it, but very sad to see that my 2 years old (top laptop at the time) struggles with beating it in boot up time.

Is there a way to speed up the boot time in Ubuntu 8.04 ?
Current mood: AARRRGGGGHHHHH !!! #bollockstobrexit
