Awesome titles and the best music
« on: 01 March, 2013, 06:27:46 pm »
Stuff that not only sounds good, but the title just comes from somewhere else, the whole package.

Like:

Traffic: Low spark of high heeled boys (Best title of any song ever?)

Mott The Hoople: Death May Be Your Santa Claus except the music isn't good enough

Talking heads: Pschco Killer ? Maybe just a weird title

Anyone think of good un's?

The Flaming Stars - Bring me the Rest of Alfredo Garcia

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/DH7g7h8OWHc&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/DH7g7h8OWHc&rel=1</a>

Nicely combining the cinematic scope of Peckinpah with a gag only to be understood by Radio 4 listeners.

They're a pretty good band who had some great moments. Named after an Elvis movie ;D

I've enjoyed Max Decharné's books, too, which riff on pretty much the same themes as the band.

Welsh riff-monsters Budgie had a thing for out-there song titles, particularly:
Napoleon Bona Parts 1 and 2
Crash Course in Brain Surgery
You're the Biggest Thing Since Powdered Milk
In the Grip of a Tyrefitter's Hand
Panzer Division Destroyed

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band - There's No Lights on the Christmas Tree Mother, They're Burning Big Louie Tonight  ;D

The B-52s - Rock Lobster   "There goes a narwhal..." 'Nuff said...  :D

Timbuk 3 - The Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades  8)

I have:

Squirrel and G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile White Out (the first track is "Kuff Dam", which sounds odd until you realise it's meant to be pronounced backwards).

Novocaine for the Soul - Eels.

Not as surreal or bonkers as many, just a great to-the-point title with meaning. (And a good record)

The Bastard Son of Dean Friedman; Dickie Davies Eyes; I left my heart in Papworth General.

Almost the whole Half Man Half Biscuit catalogue has a good deal of depth to it. As for album titles, Achtung Bono is a kick up the arse of the Irish, pissweaselish popster.
Haggerty F, Haggerty R, Tomkins, Noble, Carrick, Robson, Crapper, Dewhurst, Macintyre, Treadmore, Davitt.

The Man Don't Give a Fuck by The Super Furry Animals. Tabloid-baiting title, radio-unfriendly chorus - no commercial sense whatsoever (a standalone single not on an album) and a great cover paying tribute to a notorious yet audacious incident by a legendary wasted talent and one-time local hero. A great track, and even better if you've heard it live through their quadraphonic PA!

Brilliant - I love their cover of the Flake Advert.

I'm enjoying the titles to Listener's tracks, such as:
"A song from a knife salesman to his wife on their wedding day."

Bran Flakes?  I've always wondered if the line about "a crate of Watney's" is original, since I can't find the advert on YouTube.

Cadbury's Flake.... only the crumbliest, flakiest chocolate... tastes like chocolate never tasted before.... (for those unfamiliar with snuff...they had a genre to themselves; "Trombone punk fused with Oi").  It didn't make it to an album, 'twas a live treat.

Most songs on the album Ice Cream for Crow by Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band.

For example: "Hey Garland, I Dig Your Tweed Coat", "The Past Sure Is Tense" and "The Thousandth and Tenth Day of the Human Totem Pole"

Brain Salad Surgery - Emerson, Lake & Palmer

<In before Rogerzilla>

The working title for the album was "Whip Some Skull On Ya" - "Brain Salad Surgery" (taken from a Doctor John lyric) was considered a less obvious euphemism for fellatio...  :demon:
