Ive had the best days cycling in many a long day
In order to get me and bike in Lochaber for the Port Navigation next week I decided to take the day off work today and ride to Rannoch Station.
It started before some folk were awake. The Zephyr was left on the bench given last weeks bad behaviour and my need for chunkier tyres.
There was limited scenery before Dunblane
Yeah that’s a serious blaze Grangemouth, but its no Muirburn
Comrie seemed to be hiding from me
But here it is on a better day
Loch Earn was lovely – I took the south road
I wanted to stay off the busier roads so took the path at Lochearnhead, affording nice views of Loch Earn
I was glad I shunned the road for the path (the old railway)
I took the “main” road up from Killin to Kenmore. As McGonagal astutely observed “The Tay the Tay the silvery tay, the hills can be quite tricky in a North East wind, like today
After Coshieville the road went up
so I stopped to admire the scenery
but it still went up even more, so I stopped again
After Kinloch Rannoch, I looked back on the best view of Schiehallion
Further along Loch Rannoch I stopped for a rest. I believe that George Berwick slept in this yellow boat in 1972 on the Rannoch – Balloch – Rannoch 400k audax in 1972. No bag drops in those days.
After a long and rewarding day in the saddle I reached my final destination
Willesden JUnction, GIRUY (that’s “eat your heart out” south of the border
and dinner was provided here
while waiting the arrival of the 21.07 to Fort William.
After a most pleasant train journey to Fort William Im now helping the Scottish economy
